The world is rife with problems. Human beings since they first became conscious have always lamented why this must be the case. The other complaint has always been that problems always seem to come with other problems. Here is a picture of your life in hindsight.

I'm sorry to say that I don't know why that is the case. After you finished cursing me out in all manner of vulgar insults, Here is how the ancient Greeks sought to explain this fundamental fact of life. I hope it will give you the needed thrust to soldier on through the vicissitudes of life.

Ancient Greek Explanation.

Zeus(King of the Gods) had tasked Prometheus(Titan, His name means "forethought") to make the race of man. Prometheus was filled with grief for the life mankind lived and to help them stole fire from the heavens and gave it to them. Zeus was angered by being tricked twice by Prometheus.

The other time was when he tricked the Gods into only partaking the smoke of the sacrifice and mankind eating the meat. But that is a story for another day.

Zeus's Revenge.

Zeus decided to spite Prometheus and get back at him by punishing the human race. He tasked Hephaestus and other Gods to make a woman who was beautiful and full of cunning and gifted her as a bride for Prometheus's brother Epimethius(Titan, His name means "afterthought")and named her Pandora.

He then gifted Epimethius and Pandora a beautiful Chest for their wedding gift.

Pandora Box.

Prometheus had warned his brother to be wary of any gifts given by the Gods but he did not pay heed to his cautions.

Pandora due to her cunning nature was curious to know what was in the chest.

When she opened the box and all the ills of the world flew out. Free to plague mankind. War, Famine, sickness, natural disasters, death... you get the point. All the Good things unable to contend with the bad things flew back to the heavens. Pandora quickly closed the chest and she managed to prevent hope from flying away.

Thus Hope was forever in mankind's heart. Hope was however strong enough to help mankind endure all its hardships and the good things occasionally flew down one by one to bless mankind but never in great number.

Tyrion Lannister once lamented what you're asking yourself now.

"Why do all gods have to be such %$%*s." (Game of Thrones Reference)

But if you take anything away from this story let it be the following:

Prometheus brought us fire which is credited with revolutionizing human technological and scientific ingenuity. (Zeus was jealous of this.)

We could better our lot and maybe even overcome most of the ills.

Secondly, If we have nothing else we will always have Hope in our hearts and despite everything, it fuels our desire to fight for our brighter day.

Finally, for those who don't buy into this "positive" narrative at least you know from whence the expression "a Pandora's box" is derived. Seriously what else do you want from me.

Okay here is a video of you slapping your problems around with your newly discovered superpower, hope-woman(or man).
